GAZEt t t NOTICE NO. 5137 OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT THE NATIONAL URBAN AND METROPOLITAN AREAS DEVELOPMENT BOARD EST AB LIS HMENT 1.IT IS notified for general information that I, Mwai Kibaki, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kenya, establishes a Board to be known as the National Urban and Metropolitan Areas Development Board. 2.The overall objective of the Board shall he to develop an integrated spatial framework for the implementation of growth and development strategies for urban and metropolitan areas of Kenya with a view to providing a high quality of life to the inhabitants, visitors, and investors in such areas and the people of Kenya in general. 3.The Board shall provide a mechanism for compliance by local authorities with all physical development plans and planning standards specified under the relevant laws. 4.For the purpose of this notice, urban and metropolitan areas shall comprise such areas as may be specified by the Minister for Local Government and which may be more particularly described by the Director of Physical Planning. 5.) The National Urban and Metropolitan Areas Development Board shall consist of a chairman appointed by the President and the following members: — (a)The Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries responsible for- Provincial Administration and Internal Security; Finance; Local Government; Lands; Roads and Public Works, and Transport. (b)The Chief executive officer of the Association of Local Government Authorities of Kenya (ALGAK); and (c)Four eminent persons, not being public servants appointed by the President by virtue of their competence, integrity and proven ability to derive results. (2)In absence of the Chairman from a meeting of the Board the members present shall appoint one of the persons specified under sub- paragraph (1) (c) to act (Cap. 531)
