THE RATING ACT
(Cap. 267)
APPROVAL
PURSUANT to the provisions of sections 15 (1) and 16 (3) of the Rating Act, notice is given that the City Council of Nairobi with the approval of the Minister for Local Government has levied the undermentioned rates for 1998. The rates become due on January, 1998 and are payable at City Hall, Nairobi, by the
31st May, 1998. If any rates remain unpaid after 31st May, 1998, interest at the rate of 2 per centum per month or part thereof will be payable to the City Council on the amount unpaid.
« _ Rates are a debt to the City Council and whilst every effort shall
* be made to deliver a demand note to every rateable owner of the
‘Sproperty, failure to receive the same will not be held to absolve the debtor from any liability to penalty for rates remaining unpaid after 31st May, 1998.
Site Value rates for 1998
(a) General rates of 14 per. centum of the unimproved site value of land as appearing in the 1982 Valuation Roll.
(b) Reduction of remissions of payment of the rates levied as above in respect of the land specified below forthe year
1998 in accordance with section 22 (2) of the Rating Act
(Cap. 267) i.e. the land designated for agricultural purposes, rates equivalent to 3 per centum of the unimproved site value. ;
For the city area transferred from Kiambu County Council
(a) Under the provision of ther sections-5 (1) and 22 (2) of the Rating Act (Cap. 267) a rate be levied for the year
1998 in the area of the city transferred from Kiambu
County Council as follows:
(i) For every agricultural plot at KSh. 640 per plot.
(ii) In Kangemi and Riruta at KSh. 1,490 per plot.
(iii) For commercial plots in Kangemi, Riruta and
Dagoretti Corner— single size shop plots KSh. 1,600;
double size shop plots KSh. 2,295;
‘treble size shop plots KSh. 1,600;
vacant plots KSh. 1,600;
temporary plots KSh. 1,135.
(iv) For plots in other shopping areas— single size shop plots KSh. 1,145;
double size shop plots KSh. 1,600;
treble size shop plots KSh. 2,180; .
vacant plots KSh. 1,660;
temporary plots KSh. 1,150.
(v) For old emergency villages at KSh. 490 per plot.
(vi) Kawangware area—Rates to be charged on plot as opposed to former fixed rates.
That in compliance with section 16 (3) of the Rating Act (Cap.
267), interest shall be charged and become payable at the rate of two per centum per month on any rates levied as aforesaid and remaining unpaid after 31st May, 1998 and for the purpose of this resolution a part of a month shall be reckoned as one month.
Rate discount 1998
In pursuance of section 16 (2) of the Rating Act (Cap. 267), the council resolved that the following discounts should apply on full payments of rates in 1998: ;
3rd April, 1998
January—5%
February—5%
March—4%
Aprit 3%
May—2%
Note.—All discounts computed will be based on rate payable in the year and that rate accounts with outstanding balances as at 31st December, 1997, will not qualify for the discount.
