Gazerre Notice No. 80 THE RATING ACT (Cap. 267) THE CITY COUNCIL OF NAIROBI Rates FOR 1999 PURSUANT to the provisions of section 15 (1) and 16 (3) of the Rating Act, notice is given that, the City Council of Nairobi has with the approval of the Minister for Local Authorities has levied the undermentioned rates for 1999. These become due on January, 1999 and are payable at City Hall, Nairobi, by 31st May, 1999. If any rates remain unpaid after 3ist May, 1999, interest at the rate of two per centum. per month or part thereof will be payable to the city council on the amount unpaid. Rates are a debt to the city council and whilst every effort shall be made to deliver a demand note to every rateable owner of the property, failure to teceive the same will not be held to absolve the debtor from any liability to penalty for rates remaining unpaid after 31st May, 1999. Site Value Rates for 1999: (a) General rates of 14 per centum of the unimproved site value of land as appearing in the 1982 Valuation Roll. (b) Reduction of remissions of payment of the rates levied as above in respect of the land specified below for the year 1999 in accordance with section 22 (2) of the Rating Act, i.e. land designated for agricultural purposes, rates equivalent to 3 per centum of the unimproved site value. | For the city area transferred from Kiambu County Council: (a) Under the provisions of section 5 (1) and section 22 (2) of the Rating Act, a rate be levied for the year 1999 in the area of the city transferred from Kiambu County Council as follows: KSh. (i) For every agricultural plot 640 (ii) In Kangemi and Riruta per plot 1,490 (iii) For commercial plots in Kangemi, Riruta and Dagoretti Corner— single size shop plots... 1,600 double size shop plots... 2,295 treble size shop plots... 1,600 vacant plots . . 1,600 temporary plots. .. . 1,135 (iv) For plots in other shopping areas— Single size shop plots... 1,145 double size shop plots... 1,600 treble size shop plots... 2,180 vacant plots ij‘ yj. a 1,660 temporary plots .. . 1,150 (v) For old emergency villages per plot 490 (b) Kawangware area rates to be charged on plot as opposed to former fixed rates. That in compliance with section 16 (3) of the Rating Act, interest shall be charged and become payable at the rate of two per centum per month on any rates levied as aforesaid and remaining unpaid after 31st May, 1999 and for the purpose of this resolution a.part of a month shall be reckoned as one month. Rate Discount 1999: . In pursuance of section 16 (2) of the Rating Act, the council resolved that the following discounts should apply on full payments of rates in 1999. : January 5 per cent. February 4 per cent. March 3 per cent. April 2 per cent. May 1 per cent. All discounts computed will be based on rate payable in the year.
