IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 44 (3) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013. the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife gazettes the Plan in the Schedule hereto. SCHEDULE Chyulu Hills National Park Management Plan (hereinafter referred to as “the Plan”) defines the guiding principles. management objectives and actions that stakeholders of Chyulu Hills National Park have designed to address conservation, tourism development and Management. community partnership, wildlife security, and operational issues in Chyulu Hills National Park and its adjacent areas. The plan addresses threats to Chyulu Hills National Park through the following management interventions measures — (a) implementing the zoning scheme outlined in the Plan: and (b) implementing management actions under the Plan’s five management programmes. The Plan*s zoning scheme and management programmes are outlined in the following sections: Zoning Scheme Chyulu Hills National Park has a single management zone which 1s Low Use Zone. This zone has low levels of visitation and contains no permanent visitor accommodation other than public campsites. Although the zone has low wildlife densities, this zone has significant opportunities for alternative visitor activities such as hiking and horse riding. Management Programme (a) Ecological Management Programme The main function of the ecological management programme is to enhance the conservation of the park's natural environment through improved ecological monitoring, applied research and targeted Management interventions. The programme aims to achieve this purpose through implementation of a set of objectives that focus on: enhancing and expanding research and monitoring to effectively address key biodiversity issues and management needs. developing mechanisms of protecting and conserving key habitats, improving the conservation status of key Jarge mammal species and addressing expansive land use issues outside the park. (b) Tourism Development and Management Programme The Tourism Development and Management Programme aims at providing visitors with memorable experiences based on the park’s unique wildlife. forest wilderness and geomorphological values. To achieve this aim, effort will be directed towards developing and managing of tourism in the face of evolving tourism endeavors. To achieve this aim, the programme objectives focus on: expanding tourism product to acceptable levels. expanding and diversifying tourism investments and use in the park and improving the management and admunistration of tourism. (c) Community Partnership) and Conservation Education Programme This Community Partnership and Conservation Education Programme aims at promoting an inclusive partnership that fosters participation and custodianship between the park and the community. The aim of this programme will be achieved through implementation of management objectives that focus on: improving communication and collaboration with stakeholders, managing and containing human wildlife conflicts, strengthening conservation education and awareness and supporting community based initiatives as well as enhancing conservation related benefits. (d) Security Programme The Security Programme aims at providing efficient, effective and adequate security services that ensures the safety of the park’s natural resources, staff. visitors and assets. As such, the programme focuses on strengthening natural resource protection as well as protecting visitors. KWS assets and property. (e) Park Operations Programme The Park Operations Programme aims at supporting the achievements of the park purpose and the delivery of other management programmes.
