PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Minara Homes Limited, proposes to develop a single mega high-rise residential-aparments block comprising single basement floor, ground floor plus 17No.floors) with a total of 180No. apartment units of three, four and five bedroom apartments acompanied by 4No.bedroomed duplexes with domestic servant quarter from 2nd to 18th floor, 4No. slots for fast and heavy duty lifts installation, 213No. parking slots, mosque(prayer area), gym, swimming pool and other associated facilities and amenities on LR. Apply soil erosion control measures such as levelling of the project site to reduce run-off velocity and increase infiltration of storm water into the soil. Ensure that construction vehicles are restricted to existing graded roads to avoid soil compaction within the project site. Ensure that any compacted areas are ripped to reduce run-off. Provide facilities for proper handling and storage of construction materials to reduce the amount of waste caused by damage or exposure to the elements. Sensitize construction drivers to avoid gunning of vehicle engines or hooting especially when passing through sensitive areas such as churches, residential areas and schools. Ensure that construction machinery are kept in good condition to reduce noise generation. Ensure that all generators and heavy duty equipment are insulated or placed in enclosures to minimize ambient noise levels. The noisy construction works will entirely be planned to be during day time when most of the neighbours will be at work. Ensure electrical machinery, equipment. appliances and fights are switched off when not being used. Install energy saving fluorescent tubes at all lighting points instead of bulbs which consume higher electric energy. Arrangements must be in place to train and supervise inexperienced workers regarding construction machinery use and other procedures/operations. Reports of muchinery inspection/examinations must be presented in prescribed forms, signed by the examiner and attached to the general register. Ensure that materials are stored or stacked in such manner as to ensure their stability and prevent any fall or collapse. Ensure that items are not stored/stacked against weak walls and partitions. All floors, steps, stairs and passages at the construction site must be of sound construction and properly maintained. Securely fence or cover all openings in ground, floors. All ladders used in construction works must be of good construction and sound material of adequate strength and be properly maintained. Ensure that construction workers are not locked up such that they woutd not escape in case of an emergency.
