GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 1366

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Erdemann Property Limited, proposes to expand the River Estate Residential! Development by constructing additional 3 blocks of 34 floors each with 10 units per floor, additional two units per floor on the previously approved 6 blocks of 34 floors each of 8 units per floor making it a total of 10 units per floor by doing away with the 3-bedroom units in favor of 2 bedroom and studio apartments. The development will have a total of |.835No. housing units. 16 No. shops, parking lots in the two basements and ground floor. Other project associated facilities and amenities shall include an onsite concrete mixer batching plant, lifts, staircase, driveways, green area and two gates. The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures: Impact Mitigation Measure Soil erosion ¢ Excavated soil is to be used for backfilling excavated areas while excess svil is disposed of off-site. ¢ Soils are not to be left exposed to wind/water. ¢ Excavation activities to be done during the dry season to avoid soil erosion and siltation of streams. ¢ Construction of effective drainages and culverts. * Plant soil binding grasses and other native plants. Air pollution * Control speed of vehicles and prohibit idling. ¢ Spray water during construction. ¢ Maintenance vehicles and equipment regutarly. * Provision of dust masks for use in dusty conditions. Impact Excess noise and vibration Generation of solid und liquid waste Health and safety Mitigation Measure Use serviceable vehicles/machinery to reduce smoke. Water is to be sprayed on building undergoing demolition during decommissioning of reduce dust emission. Use noise hearing protection devices when working with noisy equipment or noisy environment. Use serviceable equipment with low noise emission. Instruct truck/machinery operators to avoid raving engines. Noise reduction/ hearing protection devices when working with noisy equipment. Use of noise protection (ear muff) during demolition. Provide communal solid waste collection containers (skip) for the collection and storage prior to appropriate disposal. County Government/NEMA to provide waste dumping site. Engage a NEMA registered waste collection firm. Construct a paved containment for storage of oils and other Itquid chemicals being used in the construction site. Use of construction site barrier tapes to isolate the site(working) area to bar intruders from accessing the area in case of a dropping object. Appropriate head, hand and foot protection (PPE) during the manual clearing of vegetation and construction activities. Adopting ergonomic work flow designs that fit physical tasks to employees und not vice versa. Maintain work productivity. Construction site visitors require appropriate safety gear. Testing of structures for integrity prior to undertaking work. Implementation of fall protection including induction on climbing techniques and use of fall protection measures. Provision of harnesses and scaffolds — for working at heights. Adoptng ergonomic work flow designs that fit physical tasks to employees and not vice versa while maintaining a balance with productivity. Sensitize workers and community on sexually transmitted diseases especially STIs and HIV/AIDS which is spread — through socialization and unprotected sex. Sensitize workers on use of protection facilities like mosquito nets. Provide first aid facilities at the site. Provide firefighting equipment at the construction site area. Contractor staff to be sensitized on firefighting equipment use. No burning of materials is to be permitted at the site.
