THE KENYA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY THE CONSTITUTION
(No. 13 of 1997)
APPOINTMENT
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 4 of the Constitution of
Kenya Review Act, 1997 (as amended by section 6 of the Constitution of Kenya Review (Amendment) Act, No. 8 of 2000), the National
Assembly invites applications from persons qualified under the Act for nomination as commissioners of the Constitution of Kenya Review
Commission.
The following information is provided only as a guide to potential applicants. It is recommended that all interested parties read the provisions of the Act.
Number of vacancies:
Section 4 (3) of the Act requires the National Assembly to nominaie—
(a) fifteen persons for appointment as commissioners; and
(b) eight persons for appointment as alternate commissioners.
Qualifications and disqualifications:
In accordance with section 4A of the Act, of the fifteen commission- ers referred to as above— , (a) seven shall have knowledge and at least five (5) years’ experience in matters relating to constitutional law; and
(b) cight shall have knowledge and experience in public affairs; -
Provided that—
(i) the persons qualified in terms of paragraph (b) shall comprise onc person from each province;
(ii) the total membership of the Commission shall not comprise more than two persons from any one province; and
(iii) at least three members of the Commission shall be women.
The alternate commissioners shall comprise one person from each province and hold the academic or professional qualifications speci- ficd in paragraph (a) or (b).
Under section 4A (3), no person is qualified for appointment as a commissioner or alternate commissioner—
(a) unless such person—
(i) is of sound mind; and
(ii) is of good character and integrity; or
(bj if such person is an undischarged bankrupt.
Who may apply:
Under section 4 (2), applications may be made—
(a) by any qualified person; or
(b) by any persons, organization or group of persons proposing the nomination of any qualified person.
Secretary:
Applications are invited from qualified persons for nomination by the National Assembly for the position of secretary to the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission.
In accordance with section 6 of the Act, the secretary shall serve on a full time basis and shall be an ex officio member of the Commission.
Application procedure:
Application in writing including certified copies of certificates and testimonials supported by a detailed curriculum vitae of the proposed person’s academic and professional qualifications, working experience and the names of two (2) referees who are knowledgeable about the proposed person’s competence/qualification and character should be sent in duplicate within fourteen (14) days of this advertisement to:

Applications may also be delivered to the office of the clerk at the.
Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, during official hours.
Any applicant who canvasses for any of the above positions shall be disqualified trom consideration.
