Pursuant to Regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Kenya Forest Service is proposing is proposing to construct an electric fence around Kakamega Forest and replant the degraded forest patches with indigenous trees in Kakamega County. Summary of potential impacts and mitigation measures: • Educate community on genetic resource commercialization and promote ABS under Nagoya protocol. • Enforce laws on illegal income from charcoal burning, mining and illegal logging. • Train workers on safety precautions. • Always provide well equipped first aid kit along the construction sites. • Provide personal protective equipment to all workers.
