Pursuant to Regulation 21 of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, 2003, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Saif Properties Limited, is proposing to construct a fifteen (15) floor state of the art residential flat comprising ten (10) residential units per floor totaling one hundred and fifty (150) residential units with each unit having a detached domestic servant quarter. The ground floor will also include; a swimming pool, changing rooms/store, reception area and gym/ children playing area/ changing rooms /sauna. on plot L.R. No. 1/417 along George Padmore Road, Kilirnani in Nairobi City County. The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures: Impacts Soil erosion Occupational health and safety Generation of wastewater • Carry out soil test for the proposed site to determine its bearing capacity. • Technical consideration will be, taken during construction work. • Standard health and safety measures should be adhered to. • • Workers should be provided with PPEs and used as directed. • Stop operations in case • of an imminent and serious danger. • Provide adequate and well stocked first aid box. • Adequate toolbox talks and training to all workers. • Adequate warning/inductions and instruction signs must be prominently displayed. • All construction machines/ equipment must be operated by experienced personnel and regularly serviced Ensure adherence to OSHA, 2007. Proposed mitigation measures • Ensure continuous covering of exposed soil and stockpiles. • Compact loose soils to minimize wind erosion. • Avoid unnecessary movement of soil materials from the site. • Use of soil erosion control structures on prone areas within the site and measures such as suppressing open surfaces with water. • Materials to be delivered on site in instalments to reduce stockpiles. • Levelling of the project site to reduce run- off velocity and increase infiltration of storm water into the soil. • Provide means for handling liquid waste generated by construction workers. • Conduct regular checks for pipe blockages or damages since such vices can lead to release of the effluent into the land and water bodies.
