The proponent, Amu Powcr Company Ltd. is proposing to construct a 1O50MW coal fred power plant in the Kwasasi area, HindirMagogoni Sub-County in l,amu County. The proposed power plant will comprise a coal fired power station and associatcd burldings, sfructures and plant, including: 3No. high-pressurE steam turbincs, coal receivihg system, coal stock yard, ash yard, limestone receiving system, gypsum handling system, once-through sea water eooling system, flue gas air quality conditioning syst€m, sea water desalination facilities, sub-station and switchyard frcilities, distributed control systcm, auxiliary boiler and accommodation facilities for permanent workcrs during operational phase. The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measufes: Potential Impacts Air quqlity Mitigation Measures . Use of clean coal technologies such as Low Nitrous Oxide Bumers, Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) and Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD) systems. . In the design phase, the height of the chimney will be sct .1.210 meters from grade level to cnsurc that treated priority air pollutants do not cause adverse impacts on air quality. . The EPC contractor should construct a Wastewater management . Socio-economic impacts' salvage yard whrch includes areas for segregating general and hazardous wastes. The waste storage facilities must include linings, bunds and roofing. A hazardous chemical and waste storage facility should include a low permeability surface, preferably concrete, that is protected from the ingress of storm water from surrounding areas to ensure that accidental spillage does not pollute local soif or water resources. Employees should be trained in the proper handling and disposal of the fly ash, bottom ash and wet FGD gypsum to minimize their risk of exposure in accordance with the O&M Company's operational health and safety procedures. Employees should be provided with appropriate- personal protective equipment (PPE) for handling - the ash. Proper handling and disposal by employeer would minimize exposure or health-related issues to the public. The EPC contracto; will avoid silt laden run-off into the estuary throughout the construction phase by limiting the amount of exposed soil stockpiles left unprotected. The EPC Contractor will design and build an appropriately sized Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for maneging sanitary sewage that will be generated during the construction phase.
