PURSUANT to section 3, Part II, First Schedule of the Judicial Service Act, No. '1 of 2011 the Judiciary declares one (1) vacancy in the Office of Judge of the Supreme of Court of Kenya. Job details: Ref: V/No. 5/2016 Terms of Service: Constitutional Office Tenure of office: As per Article 167 of the Constitution. Functions: A Judge of the Supreme Court shall serve in the Supreme Court of Kenya and shall exercise the following functions: 1.Have exclusive original jurisdiction to hear and determine disputes relating to the elections of the Office of President arising under Article 140 of the Constitution. 2.Hear and determine in its appellate jurisdiction appeals from the Court of Appeal and any other Court or Tribunal as prescribed by National Legislature, and 3.Give an advisory opinion at- the request of the National Government, any State Organ, or any County Governthent with respect of any matter concerning County Government. Constitutional and Statutory Requirements for Appointment: For appointment to the position of Judge of the Supreme Court, an applicant must possess the following minimum qualifications: 1.Hold a law degree from a recognized university or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction; 2.Possess at least fifteen (15) years' experience as a superior court judge or a distinguished academic, judicial officer, legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal field; or 3.Hold the qualifications mentioned in paragraph (1) and (2) above for a period amounting, in the aggregate to fifteen (15) years. (Note: Experience gained in Kenya or in another Commonwealth Country with a common-law jurisdiction will be considered) 4.Be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality. 5.Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution. 6.In addition, the applicants must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence, communication skills, fairness, good temperament, making of good judgments in both legal and life experiences and commitment to public and community service. The appointment shall be made in accordance with Article 166 (2) (3) (a) (b) and (c) of the Constitution of Kenya as read with the First Schedule of the Judicial Service Act, 2011.
