THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of proposed tannery and effluent treatment plant at Mavoko Municipality on L.R. No. 337/613. The proposed project consists of complete rehabilitation of an existing tannery and reconstruction of an existing effluent treatment plant both of which tae within Mavoko Municipality. The intake of the project is at Mavoko Municipality on L.R. No. 337/613. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures: Possible impacts Mitigation Measures Public occupational • Provide and enforce the use of health and safety protective clothing, or 'gear to all the workers, visitors and customers. •Monitor health status of workers regularly. •Ensure workers do not work while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. •Ensure controlled and secure storage and issue of chemicals. •Train workers on chemical handling, machine and equiment operation and servicing. •Safely dispose all solid and liquid wastes through incineration and the effluent treatment plant respectively. Ensure there is no leakage, seepage of Surface and ground water • overflow of effluents from the factory pollution and effluent treatment plant and or inflow of surfSce water runoff through appropriate civil and hydraulic engineering designs. The National Environment Nfanagethent Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, National Environment.
