GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 4214

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of proposed expansion of salt harvesting on L.R. No. 13427, Marereni, Malindi. The proposed project entails contruction of brine concentration and salt harvesting ponds. The project is located at Marereni on plot No. L.R. 13427, Malindi. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures. •Medical examinations for workers. •Install five alarms, equipment. 4. Water and soil pollution • Recycling of waste water in the evaporation ponds. •Provide proper sanitation for workers. •Proper waste disposal. 5. Waste management • Proponent will contract a private refuse handler. •Provision of waste collection facilities. 6. Air and noise pollution • Regular sprinkling of water. •Regular maintenance of machines. •Protective equipment for workers. 7. Increased energy demands • Use energy conserving electric lamps for lighting. •Enhance energy conservation. •Use of alternative sources of energy. The National Environment Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, National Environment Management Authority, to assist the authority in the approval process of the project.
