PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received, an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation- of proposed road up-grading. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures. Possible impacts Mitigation measures I. Contamination of water • Traps will be provided at fueling sources by points to prevent water petrochemicals contamination. •Embankment slopes leading to water bodies will be , modified and screened so that contaminated do not enter the water body. 5. ' 7. HIV/AIDS and STIS • HIV/AIDS awareness creation to the workers. •Provision of VCT services in the nearby health centres. •Offer guidance and counseling to the workers. •Provide recreational facilities in the camps to occupy workers free time. •Provide condoms to the workers. •Provide ARVs to affected workers.
