THE ENVIRONMENTAL . MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT
(No. 8 of 1999)
REGULATION
PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact
Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment
Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental
Impact Assessment Study Report for the implementation of proposed
Meru Mulika Simba Lodge, Meru National Park.
The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures:

1.Pollution • Use of Methods that minimize nutrient load into the environment.
2.Risk of fire. • Provision of fire prevention and fire protection, maintenance of evacuation procedure.

3. Water conflicts, water
• Diversify water sources to reduce pollution and ground potential conflicts and economize water contamination on water consumption.
•Reduce ground water contamination.
•Concrete lining of drainage system, storm water harvesting and put up a sewerage treatment plant.
4.Pollution from empty
• Triple rinsing and dispose rinsate containers and paper into a properly constructed cartons and organic hazardous waste • landfill, waste from plant puncturing the containers and residues and paper disposing as hazardous waste.

• Recycle the organics into usable by-products.
5.Loss of aesthetics
• Restore the landscape as close as possible to its original state.
6.Sensitivity to wildlife and • Develop a code of practice for biodiversity respect of wildlife and proper conservation maintenance of the equipment used in the works.
•Make optional use of environmental resources that constitute a key element in tourism development within the park, maintain essential ecological processes and helping to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity.
7. Soil erosion and loss of
• Adequate provision of green/open biodiversity spaces for ventilation and air purification.
•Harvesting of rain and surface water to reduce run off and store in underground reservoir for reuse.
•Preservation and enhancement of natural vegetation landscaping the area.
