PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment. Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the implementation of proposed Cement Manufacture Company. The proposed project involves the mixing of the imported clinker with the correct amounts of gypsum, clay and pozzolona to produce cement. The project is to be located on L.R. No. 12648/15 and 12648/17, Machakos District, Athi River Division, Athi River. The intake of the project is located outside the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, about 6 kilometres from the Talek Town, in Koiyaki Group Ranch, Narok Sotah District. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures: Mitigation measures •The proponent is entitled to apply for the waste disposal licences. •There will be need for stringent treatment of effluent. •Dust emissions during construction may be reduced using biodegradable hydrant and sprinkling of water on the surface. •Ensure minimal obstruction to storm water flow and prevent surface run-off from entering the sewers •Provide fixed and permanent monitoring points for sampling and install a gauging systetn for monitoring volumes of waste water.
