GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 1263

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the implementation of proposed development of residential houses. The proposed project consists of construction of three (3) modern villa houses on 0.1822 hectare plot. The project is to be located along Shanzu Road, off Lower Kabete •Estate, Kyuna Estate plot L. R. No. 7158/384. The project anticipates the following impacts and mitigation measures: Possible Impacts Mitigation Measures 1. Drainage system — Ensure that storm water drainages are separated from the public sewerage system. —Check points should be accessible for unblocking. —Install drainage systems properly to ensure the drainage are free from any blocking materials. —Ensure effective wastage management. 2. Surface run-off — Ensure that no wasted water is directed to surface run-off drainage. —Installation of oil/grease interceptors at appropriate points. —Ensure that no surface drains are connected into the public sewers. 3. Solid waste management —. Provide solid waste collectio facilities at strategic locations and provide solid waste segregation containers. —A selection yard should be slabbed and compartmented to provide space for every category of solid waste. —Contact the municipal council for site of disposal of the construction material remains. 4. Public and Occupational — Provide workers with appropriate health and safety protective clothing. —Provide workers with a we stocked first-aid kit. —Sensitive residents on fire risks. —Install and maintain fire-fighting equipment and machinery. 5. Air Dust and Noise pollution — Provide barriers' such as walls and trees around site boundaries to provide some buffer against noise propagation. —Use of ear protectors for the workers. —Construction activities to be restricted to the day time. —Sprinkle water to reduce dust. 6. Oil spills — Provide handling, storage and disposal of oil and oil wastes. —Provide oil interceptors along drains leading to car washes 7.Increase in traffic — Provide bill boards at the site/entrance to notify motorists in the area. 8.Destruction of the physical — Provide soil erosion control environment, soil erosion structures on the steep sides. —Control earth works, compact loose soils and ensure management of excavation activities. —Landscape properly the disturbed areas after completion of works. — Use indigenous trees to replant areas where vegetation is unnecessarily removed.
