GAZETTE NOTICE NO. 4184

PURSUANT to section 59 of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project. The proponent, Tatu City Limited, proposes to construct 20 and 30 storey residential towers (A and B) with ground floors for commercial spaces, business activities and residential apartments consisting of a total of 374 units (85 studios, 94 one-bedroom units, 125 two-bedroom units, 49 three-bedroom units, 4 four-bedroom units, 12 duplexes and 1 s. penthouse), 247 parking spaces, concierge services, residents garden, infinity pool, fitness club, business lounge, shops, restaurants, bar, art gallery, banks, kids play area, hotels and offices and other associated facilities and amenities located on L.R. No. 28867/1, Plot No. 1AA-B11 at Tatu central, CBD of the Tatu City, Ruiru in Kiambu County. The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures: Possible Impacts Mitigation measures Vegetation disturbance • Ensure proper demarcation and delineation of the project area to be affected by construction work. • Clearing areas earmarked for the proposed development only. • Land scapping: planting of trees, shrubs and flowers on the remaining spaces. • Designate acess routes and parking within the site. Soil Erosion • Proper management of excavation acitivites. • Excavated materials should be removed promptly from the site to avoid erosion. • Installation of drainages to control storm water flow onsite. • Controlling earthworks. Increased Storm Water, Runoff. • Storm water management plan that minimize impervious area infiltration. • Ensuring construction vehicles are restricted to existing graded roads to avoid soil compaction within the site. • Ensure any compacted areas are ripped to reduce run-off. • Levelling the proposed project site to reduce run-off velocity. High Demand of Raw Material • Source building materials from local suppliers who use environmentally friendly processes in their operations. • Ensure damage or loss of materials at the construction site is kept minimal through proper storage. Dust Emission • Ensure strict enforcement of on-site speed limit regulations. • Cover stockpiles of sand, soil and similar materials.
