• Install drainage structures to control the
flow of storm water.
• Ensure management of excavation
activities.
Loss of vegetation • Only areas earmarked for development
should be cleared.
• Project developmental footprint is less than
75% of the total land cover.
• Plant trees, shrubs and flowers on
remaining open spaces.
Air pollution
• Stockpiles of the earth should be sprayed
with water or covered during dry seasons.
• Provide dust masks for the personnel in
dusty areas.
• Sensitize construction workers on pollution
control measurers.
• Cover all trucks hauling soil, sand and
other loose materials.
• Provide dust screen where necessary.
Noise pollution
• Install portable barriers to shield
compressors and other small stationary
equipment where necessary.
• Display signs to indicate construction
activities.
• Maintain all equipment.
• Adhere to provisions of Noise Prevention
and Control Rules 2005, Legal notice no.
24 regarding noise limits at the workplace
as well as NEMA Noise and Excessive
Vibration Pollution Control Regulations,
2000.
Road traffic
• No overloading of trucks and good driving
disruption
practices to be practiced.
• Appropriate junction/access point to be
provided.
• Use of proper and legible signage.
• Employment of formal flagmen/women to
ensure public safety.
Increased generation • Adopt waste minimization at source.
of waste
Generation of
wastewater
Public health and
occupational safety

personnel.
• Monitoring the fate of disposed of wastes .
to ensure they are legally landfilled at a

and adherence to the water quality
regulations of 2006.
• Ensure proper solid waste disposal and
collection facilities.

• County Government/NEMA to provide
waste dumping site.
• Engage a NEMA Registered Waste
Collection Firm.
• Excavation activities to be done during
the dry season to avoid soil erosion and
siltation of streams.
Noise pollution (excess • Use of noise reduction/ hearing
noise and vibration) protection devices when working with
noisy equipment.
• Use of serviceable chain saws (low noise
emission).
• Instruct machinery operators to avoid
raving of engines.
• Carry out site preparation activities
during the day.
• Use noise hearing protection devices
when working with noisy equipment or
noisy environment.
• Use serviceable equipment with low
noise emission.
• Instruct truck/machinery operators to
avoid raving engines.
Sanitary other domestic • Provide site clearing workers with solid
waste generation waste bins for their use.
Soil erosion
• Ensure site has toilet facilities.
• Sensitize workers on site cleanliness and
hygiene.
• Excavated soil is to be used for
backfilling excavated areas while excess
soil is disposed of off-site; Soils are not
to be left exposed to wind/water;
• Soil erosion is to be reduced and river
valley protection enhanced.
Air pollution (dust, fuel • Control speed of vehicles and Prohibit
and smoke emissions) idling.
• Spray water during construction.
• Maintenance vehicles and equipment
regularly.
• Provision of dust masks for use in dusty
conditions.
• Use serviceable vehicles/machinery to
reduce smoke.
Generation of liquid •
waste, used oil and
other chemicals
(hazardous waste)
Risk of fire
Construct a paved containment for
storage of oils and other liquid chemicals
being used in the construction site.
• Provide containers for storage of used
oils from vehicles /machines/equipment.
